The Community Council in Star is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Local Authority and run by local residents to act on behalf of its area and was registered by Fife Council as Star of Markinch Community Council. The area covers from Muirhead and Kirkforthar Feus in the north west, along to Langdyke in the north-east, down to Newton Hall in the south east, to Dalginch and Newton Cottages in the south west of the community area.
The purpose of the Community Council is to ascertain, co-ordinate, represent and express the views of the local residents to Fife Council and aims to promote community participation and to further develop a sense of community within the village of Star and its surrounds. As well as representing the community to the local authority, the Community Council facilitates a wide range of activities which promote the well-being of the community, bringing local people together to help make things happen, and advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of the local residents.
The Community Council is made up of volunteer representatives and meets on a monthly basis to discuss activities and issues that affect the local people and amenities. Meetings are open to all members of the community to attend and usually take place on the first Sunday of each month at the Village Hall. If any resident of the community council area wishes to raise or have raised any matter affecting the community, come along to a meeting and/or contact the secretary using the adjacent contact form.
Community Council meetings are currently suspended per Central and Local Government guidelines.
Are you interested in having a daily copy delivered?
A big note of thanks is extended to DC Thomson for generously providing a complimentary copy of the Courier for every household in the village on Friday 15 May 2020. This was to try to encourage enough people to subscribe to a daily delivery service, so that those elderly residents who are shielded during the Covid-19 lockdown and not online would be able to have one delivered daily direct to their door. As none of the nearest newsagents will deliver to Star, the Community Council has negotiated with DC Thomson to make a delivery drop off to the village for distribution to subscribers, but a minimum number is required to make this viable.
Delivery is free so you only pay the price of the newspaper. If you would like to take out a subscription or would like more information about the service, please call the DC Thomson Customer Care Team on 01382 575427.
